Overview:

The University of Winnipeg (UWinnipeg, UW) is a public research university with undergraduate faculties of art, business and economics, education, science and kinesiology, and applied health, in addition to graduate programs. It is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Manitoba College and Wesley College, which united to create United College in 1938, served as UWinnipeg’s founding colleges. When United College was granted a charter, the University of Winnipeg was created. The structure of the government was modeled after the provincial University of Toronto Act of 1906, which established a bicameral system of university government with a senate (faculty) in charge of academic policy and a board of governors (citizens) in charge of formal authority in all other matters. The senate was responsible for setting academic policy.
