Overview: 

The University of the Sunshine Coast is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the medium city of Sippy Downs (population range of 250,000-499,999 inhabitants), Queensland. The Sunshine Coast University College, which was founded in 1996 with 524 students, eventually changed its name to the University of the Sunshine Coast in 1999.

The university has a main campus in Sippy Downs on the Sunshine Coast, as well as other campuses in Gympie, Caboolture, and Hervey Bay on the Fraser Coast. In Moreton Bay’s Petrie, USC unveiled a full-service campus in 2020. University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) is a sizable coeducational Australian higher education institution that has received official recognition from the Department of Education and Training of Australia.  Based on applicants’ prior academic records and grades, this 29-year-old Australian higher education school maintains a stringent admissions procedure. This Australian higher education organization is the least selective due to its admission rate range of 90-99%. The application process is open to candidates from abroad.

Ranking:

The University of the Sunshine Coast has been listed by THE (Times Higher Education) – University Ranking for the past three years between 601 and 800. For the two years, 2018 and 2019, QS – World University Ranking placed the university between 801 and 1000. While Times Higher Education (THE) accords equal weight to Teaching, Research, and Citations at 30% each, QS places the greatest emphasis on Academic Reputation (40%) followed by Faculty/Student Ratio and Citations per Faculty at 20% each.

The university has improved significantly from its previous ranking of 976 for 2019 and 2020 to 965 for 2021 in the Global Universities section of US News & World Report. In addition to other rating factors, the US News & World Report bases its rankings on the number of publications cited, global research reputation, and regional research reputation (12.5% each). 

For two years, 2019 and 2020, the university was listed by the ARWU (Shanghai Ranking) – Universities Rankings between 801 and 900. In the Shanghai ranking, institutions are ranked based on the caliber of academic research they generate and the number of Nobel Prizes their faculty has earned, rather than on their reputation among academics or employers.
