The University of Tasmania (UTAS) is a public research university with its main campus in Tasmania, Australia.  It is Australia’s fourth-oldest university and was established in 1890. Christ College, one of the university’s residential colleges, was modeled after the colleges at Oxford and Cambridge and was initially suggested in 1840 in Lieutenant-Governor Sir John Franklin’s Legislative Council. It was established in 1846, making it the oldest tertiary institution in the nation. The institution is made of sandstone and a part of both the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning and the worldwide Association of Commonwealth Universities.

The entire island functions as a campus for students.  It boasts more than 34,000 students and provides both a dynamic campus life and an innovative and exciting academic environment. The University of Tasmania maintains its distinctive Tasmanian identity while providing a completely internationalized curriculum.
