In Hertfordshire, United Kingdom, there is a public university called the University of Hertfordshire (UH). Most of the university’s operations are headquartered in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. Hatfield Technical College, its predecessor organization, was established in 1948 and listed as one of the 25 Colleges of Technology in the United Kingdom in 1959. Hatfield received polytechnic certification from the Council for National Academic Awards in 1988, making it one of just 21 institutions to do so at the time. Hatfield obtained additional certification for its research degrees later that year. Hatfield received university status from the British government in 1992, at which point it changed its name to the University of Hertfordshire.
