University of Greenwich

Overview:

The renowned public university of Greenwich provides degrees in a range of academic areas through its four colleges, including the Business School, the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering and Science, and the Faculty of Education and Health. In recent National Student Surveys, the Greenwich faculty and its courses both got remarkable scores, demonstrating the university’s good performance.

Frank Didden established the University of Greenwich in the United Kingdom in 1890. It was then the second-oldest polytechnic in the entire United Kingdom and went by the name Woolwich Polytechnic. Quintin Hogg’s ideas served as inspiration for Woolwich Polytechnic, which initially prioritized education together with social and religious obligations. By 1894, increased emphasis was placed on offering higher technical education. As a result, part-time day courses were developed in collaboration with the Ministry of War (Woolwich Arsenal).

When a portion of Hammersmith College of Art and Building and Woolwich Polytechnic merged, Thames Polytechnic was born. Avery Hill College of Education (1985), Garnett College (1987), Dartford College (1976), and portions of Goldsmiths College and the City of London College (1988) were later incorporated. In 1992, the government gave Thames Polytechnic its first university status; as a result, it was eventually renamed University of Greenwich.
