University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien
Overview:
The University of Applied Sciences Technikum Vienna was established in 1994 and became Vienna’s first university of applied sciences in 2000. Its German name is Fachhochschule Technikum Wien. UAS Technikum has belonged to the European University Association (EUA) since 2012. Following the completion of a thorough extension of the primary facility at Höchstädtplatz in Vienna’s 20th district Brigittenau in 2013, UAS Technikum inaugurated a second presence in the passive office building ENERGY base in Floridsdorf in October 2008.
UAS Technikum is Austria’s biggest supplier of technical education at universities of applied sciences, with over 12,000 graduates and 4,400 students. Additionally, it collaborates with the FEEI (Fachverband der Elektro- und Elektronikindustrie) network. As of September 1, 2021, FH-Prof. Dr. Sylvia Geyer will take over as rector of UAS Technikum from FH-Prof. DI Dr. Fritz Schmöllebeck, who was appointed in April 2021.
Twelve bachelor’s degree and eighteen master’s degree programs are available at Austria’s biggest technical institution of applied sciences. Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS) provide its students with higher education that is focused on the workplace. This is mirrored in their curriculum, which include career-focused practical training units or internships at real-world businesses. Due to the limited enrollment per year and per program, the majority of the programs have an entry process that must be successfully completed. Full-time and non-work-related study programs are offered by UAS. Extracurricular programs are created with working students in mind and take into consideration their unique circumstances. A relevant thesis and an exam are necessary for all UAS programs to be completed.
A library, financial assistance and/or scholarships, study abroad and exchange programs, online courses and distance learning options, administrative services, as well as other academic and non-academic facilities and services are also offered to students by FHTW.
Ranking:
The UAS Technikum received the Erasmus+ Award 2015 for Higher Education in December of that year. Additionally, most notably in 2015 and 2021, it won top position in the Austrian Industry Magazine’s annual UAS rating.
