Roskilde University

Overview:

Danish public university Roskilde University was established in 1972 and is situated at Trekroner in Roskilde’s eastern region. The institution is built on cutting-edge, student-centered teaching methods, robust multidisciplinary research settings, and a shared emphasis on the major social, cultural, economic, and environmental concerns facing our planet. Originally, the institution was meant to be a rival to the conventional Danish universities, which had seen a number of student protests in the late 1960s. The students desired greater power and more adaptable teaching techniques since they believed that traditional colleges were undemocratic and dominated by the academics. In 1972, these educational concepts were unconventional and divisive, but they have since been largely embraced by Denmark’s traditional institutions, particularly the idea of group project work, which is now a widely accepted academic strategy. It may also be stated that RU introduced to Denmark Anglo-Saxon ideas of interdisciplinarity and looser classifications of academic disciplines. In contrast to the typical lectures offered by the more established universities of Copenhagen and Aarhus, the institution was noted for its extremely liberal curriculum in the 1970s. Instead of traditional exams, the emphasis was changed from traditional lectures to group-oriented approaches and projects.
