Overview: 

The University of Salzburg, known as the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg (Paris-Lodron-Universität Salzburg, PLUS), is a public Austrian university in the city of Salzburg, in the Austrian state of Salzburg. It was founded by Prince-Archbishop Paris Lodron.

The institution was first established in 1622, dissolved in 1810, and reopened in 1962. It is currently the largest educational institution in Salzburg state, with over 18,000 students and 2,800 staff members. The admissions process at this 400-year-old university in Austria is rigorous and relies on entrance exams. Students can also take advantage of a number of academic and extracurricular facilities and services offered by PLUS, such as a library, sports facilities, financial assistance and scholarships, study abroad and exchange opportunities, as well as administrative support services.

The University Library gives patrons access to almost 2.4 million different types of media, including books, e-books, audiovisuals, etc. Numerous additional facilities, including Quality Management, Research Services, Flexible Learning, International Relations, and Public Relations all play significant roles in the operation of the University.

In the 2024 QS World University Rankings, it has the #681-690 position. The Best Global Universities list places Salzburg University at position 816. Schools are rated based on how well they perform against a set of generally recognized measures of quality.
