Mercy College

Overview:

Mercy College (Mercy or Mercy NY) is a private university with campuses in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Yorktown Heights in addition to its main campus in Dobbs Ferry, New York. Although traditionally connected to the Catholic Church, the institution has been non-sectarian and independent since the early 1970s. More than 90 undergraduate and graduate degree and certificate programs are available at Mercy College, which includes five schools: Business, Education, Health and Natural Sciences, Liberal Arts, and Social and Behavioral Sciences. In the autumn of 2015, the institution had 11,295 registered students. The student body hails from 54 nations and 43 states.

The Sisters of Mercy founded Mercy College in 1950, and in 1961 it transitioned into a four-year institution with baccalaureate-level programs. In 1968, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education granted the college accreditation. Mercy College took a number of steps over the course of the following half-decade, including establishing itself as an autonomous co-educational institution. The scale of the current physical facility was also increased, and the first of many community outreach initiatives was started. Mercy College expanded its reach in the 1970s by establishing extension centers and branch campuses in several Westchester County and New York City neighborhoods.

Facilities:

Students at Mercy can also take advantage of a number of academic and extracurricular facilities and services, such as a library, accommodation, sports facilities, financial assistance and/or scholarships, study abroad and exchange programs, online courses and distance learning options, as well as administrative services.

Library: The Mercy College library has three locations. The library’s collection includes both tangible materials (such books, media, etc.) and digital and electronic resources. A total of 60,361 physical books, 1,454 physical media, and 59 licensed digital/electronic databases were listed by the library in 2021. A total of 24 full-time personnel, including 7 librarians, are responsible for running the library. The library at Mercy College spends more than $100,000 annually overall.

University Housing: This college offers accommodation options including dorms or on-campus apartments.

Fitness Center: On the Dobbs Ferry Campus, in Hudson Hall, on the first floor, lies the 5,000 square foot Mercy College Fitness Center. All Mercy College students, staff, faculty, and alumni have access to the fitness center, which is furnished with the best workout equipment available.

Tennis Courts: On a first-come, first-served basis, Mercy Alumni are invited to utilize the outdoor tennis courts at the Dobbs Ferry Campus all year long. Please be aware that occasionally the courts are set aside for special occasions, which will take precedence over regular use. In instance, Mercy College offers on-campus accommodation, and in the academic year 2021, there were roughly 800 students who may stay in all dorms, on or off campus.
