Technological University of the Shannon
Overview:
The Technological University of the Shannon, Midlands Midwest is a public technological university. The Republic of Ireland’s third one to be founded. The university, which was created by the merging of the Athlone Institute of Technology and the Limerick Institute of Technology, started operations in October 2021. The Technological Universities Bill, which mandated that at least two institutes submit joint applications for university status, led to the formation of the AIT-LIT Consortium.
The Technological University of the Shannon Midlands Midwest (TUS) has been named a College of Sanctuary in honor of a number of efforts that show a dedication to integrating refugees and asylum seekers into the campus community and promoting an inclusive culture for everyone. TUS is the first winner of the College of shelter award given by Places of Sanctuary, a group that supports initiatives in Ireland and the UK to create a culture of hospitality for those seeking shelter. DCU and UL are the only two higher education institutions in Ireland to have received this honor previously.
