Florida Atlantic University

Overview:

Florida Atlantic University (often abbreviated as FAU) is a public research university with campuses in Dania Beach, Davie, Fort Lauderdale, Jupiter, and Fort Pierce in addition to its main campus in Boca Raton, Florida. The university is a part of Florida’s State University System. As the sixth public university in Florida, FAU was founded and is categorized as a “R2: Doctoral Universities – High Research Activity” institution.

FAU has swiftly expanded to be among the state’s biggest universities in terms of enrolment. Within its 10 colleges, Florida Atlantic offers more than 180 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.[9] The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) has granted the university accreditation.

The first public institution in the Miami metropolitan region, FAU began operations in 1964 and exclusively offered graduate- and upper-division-level coursework. Only 867 students were enrolled at first, but that number rose in 1984 once the institution allowed its first lower-division undergraduate students to join. Over 30,000 students from 180 nations, 50 states, and the District of Columbia are enrolled as of 2021. The institution has a $900 million budget and a $6.3 billion economic effect each year.[12] More than 185,000 graduates have received degrees from Florida Atlantic University since its founding in 1964. The Florida Atlantic Owls, FAU’s varsity intercollegiate sports teams, participate in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) and NCAA Division I. With 19 varsity athletic teams, the Owls have had success in the C-USA (FAU’s former athletic conference), winning crowns and championships, and gaining recognition on a national level. Florida Atlantic accepted the AAC’s invitation on October 21, 2021, and on July 1, 2023, it became a full member.
